Does your little bill…

1. Reduce the cost of adoption in South Dakota?

2. Make it easier for gays and lesbians to adopt?

3. Fund newly, needed orphanages?

4. Create programs for uneducated teens on the use of contraception?

5. Support organizations that help in giving: food, shelter, clothes, etc?

6. Fund the police departments who, instead of going out to look for “bad” people, now have to spend their time looking for highly educated Doctors who take it upon themselves to help someone with an unwanted pregnancy or John Doe down the street that just bought stock in NAHANCO?

Anyone else have a question?

What bothers me is that SD basically had already banned abortions for all practical purposes. There is a grand total of ONE abortion provider in the state… Over the past couple of decades the actual availability of abortions nationwide have shrunk while Roe v. Wade technically stayed in effect.

Don’t forget Joey.. Anti-Abortion laws are much more about punshing women for having sex than caring about children.

If Roe v. Wade was ever actually overturned, it would be an incredibly galvanizing moment for the Left… Which is why Republicans don’t ACTUALLY want Roe erased.. They just like using it to rile up the fudie base…

I agree that the Republican Party leadership probably doesn’t actually want Roe v. Wade overturned, because its very existence is a fantastic tool for riling up the fundie base. However, what the politicos want is, at this point, moot.

The Republicans have been playing with fire ever since the early 80’s, when Reagan first started courting the fundies as a political force. And now it’s fairly obvious that the whole thing has gotten out of their control. The American Taliban is out for blood, and given the number of crypto-fascist judges Bush has placed at all levels of the federal judiciary, they probably won’t take no for an answer this time.

And, thanks to the spineless, cowardly Democrats, who couldn’t even be bothered to filibuster the nomination of Samuel “Strip Search 10 Year Olds” Alito, they’ll probably get their wish.
