My good ol’ trusty Creative Nomad Jukebox Zen recently died on me. It served me for 3 1/2 years, so its time had come, but I was sad to see it go. Unfortunately the battery could only be counted on for about two hours and the headphone jack had been screwed with so much (ever catch your headphones on a doorknob? Or ever drop your MP3 player only to have it hang from your ears? You get the picture.) that only the right side of any pair of phones worked. Sad, so sad.
Anyway, I’m in the market for a new MP3 player. I’m pretty sure I want another Creative (screw the iPod), which plays many music and video formats (including avi/divx), and the Zen Vision:M is looking enticing:

But so is the Zen Vision W:

Really, I want the M more. It’s smaller and cheaper and has consistently gotten great reviews on Amazon and CNet. The problem is that it’s only 30GB (only — I know — but have I mentioned that I have 110GB of music and 16GB of video on my server?)
The latter is more geared toward movies (widescreen format!) and it’s 60GB. But it’s also substantially bigger — larger to the point that it might be cumbersome to carry around.
Word on the street is that there’s a 60GB model of the M coming out. Should I wait (for who knows how long) and pay a little more for exactly what I want? Or get the 30GB now, save my money, and upgrade at a later date? Or get the 60GB big movie player now?

I want! I WANT!
ME TOO!
So KB, if you were to purchase one of these new goodies, where might you do so? Say if someone were looking for a gift (in the form of a gift card) to thank you for putting together her webpage maybe? Hypothetically speaking and all.
Amazon.com. I gots Amazon.com Prime, yo.
Heh.
Gimme gimme!!!
You got maximum mileage out of your nomad jukebox, man.. I’m impressed..
I think you should take the money you would’ve spent on a new mp3 player, and give it to me instead. My trusty old 20GB Archos Jukebox is failing fast after four years of service, and I needs me some new toys.
By the way, I second the “screw the iPod” sentiment. They’re the BMW of mp3 players: you’re paying extra for the name, they provide nothing cheaper brands don’t do as well or better, and many* of their owners have an entirely unwarranted superiority complex.
*Note: I said “many,” not “all.”
Why why?
Many months on the road with BumGuff. I think that thing has seen about 15 states.
My vote goes towards the M. Do you really need the widescreen movie format? Would you ever be anywhere needing to watch a movie when you didn’t have your laptop? Upgrade later.
I want music pumping into my head too!
