It’s been a while. But we need more crush lists. So here goes a’me.
- The Field — Swedish minimalist. Totally reminds me of the Thal off of Aphex Twin’s Selected Ambient Works Vol. 1. Totally atmospheric and brainy electronica. I luuuurrrrve it.
- Blockhead – Where have I been?
- The Twililght Sad — I love a good Scottish brogue.
- Ruby on Rails, and specifically this book. Pretty soon I’m going to launch my own web 2.0 company, sell to Yahoo!, and retire.
- The Better GMail FireFox Add-on.
- Adobe Illustrator. After Photoshop, this is cake.
- Feisty Fawn
- Del.icio.us bookmarks for FireFox.
- Grillin’
- Kauai!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I’m currently crushing about drivin’ cross-country. I haven’t packed a single goddamn thing for the move back to Maine in July, but I’ve already figured out what national parks we’re hitting along the way.
1) We’re taking the Coast Highway down the entire length of the Oregon and Northern California coasts (Hello, Redwoods NP), staying with friends in the Bay Area for a few days, then heading east on I-80 through the Tahoe area.
2) Then the part I’m really jazzed about: we leave the interstate and drive 500 miles of US 50 through the Nevada and Utah deserts.
3) On US 50, we stop for a couple of days at Great Basin NP. This is perhaps the stop I’m most looking forward to, because it’s supposedly one of the most beautiful parks in the country, but virtually deserted because it’s so far out in the middle of absolute nowhere. Anyone been there?
4) Then we hook up with I-70 in Utah and swing through Capitol Reef, Canyonlands, and Arches.
5) Then on to Colorado, where we will hit Black Canyon of the Gunnison and Rocky Mountain.
6) After hauling ass through all the boring flat states, we stop off in Adirondack Park, before finishing our journey with a few days in the East’s most beautiful NP, Maine’s own Acadia.
Total trip: roughly 4,500 miles and oh, maybe three weeks.
(Hmmm, maybe I should be concentraing more on, I don’t know, finding a job when I get there…)
1. Grandma’s improved health – she can start eating soft foods yea!
2. Maroon 5’s new single
3. NFL Draft
4. Picking a flight to Indiana for my cousins wedding and visiting friends…could end up a bigger adventure then first thought
5. Hot Dogs in the sun with Kerry on our lunch break
6. A play based on Trapped in the Closet
7. PORTLAND, PORTLAND, PORTLAND!
You could probably just look at Zandra’s list and pretend that I wrote it. It’s pretty much the same.
I’ll just do a Portland edition of the crush list.
1. A full day trapsing about the city with my newish Holga camera.
2. Seeing lovely folks DM and Carrie.
3. Bacon donuts
4. Powells (I don’t know if we are actually going there this time, but I’m happy just knowing it’s there.)
5. Fun and different shops filled with fun and different things.
Pelican
New album 5/22.
Youtube for giving me Pelican video, which in their case, you can ignore and just listen to.
April being over soon. It’s been a shit month.
Decimating idiots in online debates.
Finishing the Great War for Civilization
The new Poison The Well.
Satan. Wait, that was supposed to only be said in my mind.
And now for some musical crushes:
1) The Aliens, Astronomy for Dogs
The other half of the late, great, sorely-missed Beta Band (King Biscuit Time being the first half.)
2) Nine Inch Nails, Year Zero
Who knew Trent Reznor had anything left? The last time I owned a NIN cd was 1994 or thereabouts. Apparently, sobriety, turning 40, and the depradations of the Bush administration have energized the guy and caused him to finally drop the stale, tortured-teen-angst lyrical schtick that was getting old a decade and a half ago.
3) Jesu, Conqueror
This one took awhile to grow on me, because it was a shock to hear the same guy who started bands like Napalm Death and Godflesh actually singing instead of growling and bellowing. (Don’t worry, it’s still heavy as hell.)
4) Porcupine Tree, Fear of a Blank Planet
Pink Floyd meets Opeth. Yeah, you heard me.
I figured we would visit Powells. Being lost in a book store for hours sounds like good fun!
Discovering an old band: The Wedding Present rock.
Replaying Resident Evil 4 on Professional: Yikes!
Working on some plans for going back to school, getting a fancy degree and maybe, someday, having some money.
Beer, still. And food.
Spring.
Non-Portland stuff:
1. The Wii. I’ve gone on a bit of a spending spree picking up Raving Rabid, Elebits, and Paper Mario. I love this thing. Mario Party comes out at the end of the month!
2. ear pain numbing ear drops and antibiotics. Hooray for drugs!
1. Too Loud a Solitude by Bohumil Hrabal
2. Lucky Jim by Kingsley Amis
3. The new Modest Mouse
4. Arcade Fire, Neon Bible
5. Fountains of Wayne, Traffic and Weather
6. The Vibrators, Pure Mania
7. 7L and Esoteric, A New Dope
8. Firefox extensions: GTDInbox, Delicious bookmarks for Firefox, Session Manager, All in One Sidebar, Zotero, Customize Google, Web Search Pro, etc.
