Daemons and The Golden Compass

The Golden Compass (movie version) is due out in December, and I love their viral marketing campaign. Take a quiz and get an daemon (a daemon is your soul in external form). Then you ask your friends to comment on whether it suits your personality.

My daemon is an ocelot apparently. This explains so much, and yet so little. If you click on the Flash animation below, you can take a quiz about my personality. And if everyone disagrees with my own self-assessment, I think my daemon changes into something else. So be nice. This is my soul your messin’ with. If I turn into a cockroach you’ll find me in your cereal someday.

Hmm, I like the daemon that Katie worked up for me better. It was a snow leopard named Arion. This is what I got when I answered the questions. Feel free to question it….

In the book I swear anyone who was gay had a daemon that was the same sex as they were so this site doesn’t account for that. I love that you are the only one of us that is an insect and has a name that doesn’t start with an ‘A’ which is strange. Oh wait, except for Peter who starts with an ‘E.’

It’s been a while, but I don’t remember any gay characters except a couple of the angels, and they don’t have daemons. I thought the books merely implied that it was rare for a person to have a same-gendered daemon. Anyone remember better?

I liked the ocelot too. But now I’m a spider. Doh! Change me back! After 12 days, you’re daemon freezes into place and I’m on day three.

Well, my daemon initially was a ladybug and now, while I’m writing this, it is a peacock named Rasthmus. Hmm, not sure which is better. Both seem a little silly to me. Why can’t I have one that is furry and cuddly!

I retook it and today I got a Gibbon named Adan. It says I am modest, passive, responsible, inquisitive and dependable.
