Yes you heard it here folks, I have to get partial dentures. As a matter of fact I’m picking them up in about 3 hours. Why do I have to get partial dentures? Because my root canal from three years ago that I purchased a really expensive, didn’t actually have to money to buy, crown for broke. Yep that’s right my tooth broke INSIDE my crown. How does that happen you ask? Beats the hell out of me. I went to the dentist one day because my crown felt loose when I was eating over the weekend. I thought they would take it off put some spackle or whatever it is they use to put those things in place and then I would be on my way. OH NO…my tooth had broken in side of it which meant they needed to pull it so that I could either get a bridge or an implant. I nearly cried in the dentist chair. What do you mean my tooth broke, inside a crown? That can’t be true it just can’t!!!! I was a bundle of emotions. At that time all I could think is I’m about to fly out of town for a business trip and I won’t have a tooth. This can’t be happening. Luckily my dentist is a genius and awesome so she did some work to the partial leftover tooth that was still there and glued the crown back on. For weeks I was on a soft foods diet and didn’t really chew on that side of my mouth for fear the thing would pop out.So last Friday I went to the dentist and had my tooth pulled in preparation for getting an implant in the future. (Why not get one right now? Because they are hella expensive and dental insurance doesn’t always cover them, so I need to put a little money way before that happens). In the mean time I will have a partial denture in the space so that the other teeth do not cave into the hole and so the bottom tooth doesn’t climb up to the top which they will do to fill the space. That is the story of how I went from 29 to over 60 all in just a month!Happy Thursday!

Sorry about the teeth. Do you even get any fun drugs like I did last week? At least I can finally open my mouth enough to brush!
A similar thing happened to me like 9 mos. ago. I had two root canals on the same tooth (over a ten year period.)and it apparently had gotten infected and abcessed. I barely felt it and I don’t have dental insurance so I kinda ignored it. I didn’t really notice much until I pulled up my lip and inspected my gums and saw what looked like another tooth in my gum tissue. I still waited a few weeks to go in. Big ass mistake, had to pay an endodontist mass money and they ended up pulling the tooth anyways. Very interesting how the medeival torture type methods used to pull a tooth haven’t changed much in this day and age. I had two 90 lb. Asian ladies in full glamor shot makeup putting their feet on me to brace themselves while yanking at the tooth with a pair of pliers. Walking home from the appt., my cheek was swelling and turning purple. Ladies were looking at me and shaking their heads, “Poor domestic violence victim.” My options were a bridge for $3000 or an implant for $6000. Guess what, I chose a $400 retainer with a fake tooth in it. Welcome to the denture club and old-ladydom, a lot of cool people reside here!
Thanks guys!
Boypan – I did get good drugs. Thank goodness. Plus I still had leftover ones from when I had my wisdom teeth taken out.
Tonja – I’m glad I’m not alone. I have the fake tooth retainer thing and guess what. They went to put it in yesterday and the darn thing won’t stay in. Solution…fixodent. Now I feel really old. I plan to get the implant at some point. I’m hoping the insurance pays for it. A bridge is just a waste since I have a crown on the tooth behind it. I don’t want to pay double the work. I really should look into being a dentist.
I’m so sorry that you are having these problems. Root canal teeth can break because they get brittle without the root there to nourish them. Somehow, decay can get under a crown, too. Welcome to the club! I got my first 5 tooth bridge when I was still a teenager and had it replaced about 25 years ago. So far so good, but my boss says it will probably not last forever.
Cary Grant had one of his front teeth knocked out and never had it repaired, so all his back teeth migrated over and filled the gap.
Yipeee! I’m so glad you’re back to your blog. Even if it’s cause you hate your teeth. Dental stuff is mucho mucho expensive! Which reminds me I need to go to get my teeth cleaned, it’s been more than a year and I’m afraid my teeth will rot and I’ll have to get stuff done if I don’t get checked out soon!
Don’t feel old, just think of yourself as a celebrity. All of them hollywood types have fancy dental work to make their teeth look perfect.
