Yes you heard it here folks, I have to get partial dentures. As a matter of fact I’m picking them up in about 3 hours. Why do I have to get partial dentures? Because my root canal from three years ago that I purchased a really expensive, didn’t actually have to money to buy, crown for broke. Yep that’s right my tooth broke INSIDE my crown. How does that happen you ask? Beats the hell out of me. I went to the dentist one day because my crown felt loose when I was eating over the weekend. I thought they would take it off put some spackle or whatever it is they use to put those things in place and then I would be on my way. OH NO…my tooth had broken in side of it which meant they needed to pull it so that I could either get a bridge or an implant. I nearly cried in the dentist chair. What do you mean my tooth broke, inside a crown? That can’t be true it just can’t!!!! I was a bundle of emotions. At that time all I could think is I’m about to fly out of town for a business trip and I won’t have a tooth. This can’t be happening. Luckily my dentist is a genius and awesome so she did some work to the partial leftover tooth that was still there and glued the crown back on. For weeks I was on a soft foods diet and didn’t really chew on that side of my mouth for fear the thing would pop out.So last Friday I went to the dentist and had my tooth pulled in preparation for getting an implant in the future. (Why not get one right now? Because they are hella expensive and dental insurance doesn’t always cover them, so I need to put a little money way before that happens). In the mean time I will have a partial denture in the space so that the other teeth do not cave into the hole and so the bottom tooth doesn’t climb up to the top which they will do to fill the space. That is the story of how I went from 29 to over 60 all in just a month!Happy Thursday!

I get my wisdom teeth removed tomorrow at 9am. All four. I’m freaking out! Great I get to take happy pills. Great I’m going to lose 10 pounds in a week flat. Great I don’t have to go to work until next Monday of next week. BUT….I’m totally scared! My last surgery was when I was like 9 years old and had my tonsils removed. I still have nightmares about that day. “Look at the ducky Joey and fall asleep.” Then waking up alone in a scary hospital bed without my mom by my side (the moment I woke up she finally had left my side to go eat after several hours of waiting.) Why is that one of my limited childhood memories??? Damn you brain! Well…wish me luck everybody. And…..flowers are always nice =) Wink Wink Nudge Nudge! FLOWERS!!!
Update~
I went into surgery at 9am yesterday, very nervous. Things I remember: laying there waiting for them to start on me (a good 15-20 minutes). The Dr. coming in and hooking me up to the IV. I felt the drugs go into my arm (must be what taking steroids feels like. All warm and uncomfortable). The room started spinning and I told myself, “Well…here we go.” Waking up near the end of the surgery to “Bang Bang Bang CRACK.” That was the sound of my teeth being worked on. Thought to myself, “if you open your eyes more they will know you are awake, but if they know you are awake then they might stop. You don’t want them to stop. You want to get the hell out of here.” Then I remember getting up and stumbling to another room to meet my Chris.
The first day at home sucked! Trying to figure out the gauze, the pills, food. Ugh! At one point (DON’T read if you get sick easily) I projectile vomited all over the bathroom wall. It was like a fire hose. My best boy said “no problem”, put me back on to my “hospital couch” and cleaned up the bathroom.
Feeling OK this morning. Hopefully it’s all up hill from here. I must say that I have the best partner in the whole wide world. Chris has done everything for me. I love him very much and I am so lucky to have him in my life.
PS~ Here are the beautiful flowers I got from the gang yesterday =) THANK YOU!!!

I got my wisdom teeth out today, all four impacted beauties. I do not expect it to go nearly as well as Zandra’s and this is because I fully expect to have at least one dry socket. And despite my vicious come-downs from the hydrocodone, I have really tried to keep a sense of humor about this. In fact, when I was writing the check for the procedure, in the “for” section of the check (you know, the memo section?) I wrote: the exact price of human agony. I also thought of a funny exchange I really wanted to have with my dentist, but I got too groggy to remember to have it. It was going to go like this:
Doctor: Well, Melissa, do you have any questions?
Me: Yes, a few. First of all, how long until I can eat solid foods?
Doctor: About a week.
Me: Okay, and how long until I can workout?
Doctor: Also about a week.
Me: Brush normally?
Doctor: A few days.
Me: Chew gum?
Doctor: A few weeks.
Me: Fellate?

A week ago today I had my wisdom teeth pulled out. I was smart enough to go to a place that would knock me out…thank goodness!
Everything went smoothly. I went in, they gave me an IV that the dr. proceeded to pump full of drugs. I laid my head back in the chair and woke up in a different room. My friend Katie stayed with me for the day. I was expecting something horrible but it was really easy. Besides the pain and the tiredness I think I’m healing pretty well.
Only one gross thing happened. When I arrived home I went to take the first dose of antibiotics. However my mouth was so numb I could barely tell if I swollowed the pills or not. I asked Katie to look and see and as I opened my mouth a trail of blood and sprite fell out of my mouth down my clothes and on to the floor. Oh so gross!
Any of you had your wisdom teeth out? What are your stories?
